Tester’s Garage

The Tester family owned Tester’s Garage from 1942 to circa 1982.  Over time, Tester’s was 1 of 5 garages along Worthing Road.  It sold Shell petrol.  The garage relied heavily on passing trade and so it is likely the opening of the Southwater by – pass in 1982 was a reason for its closure.  During WWII, the garage manufactured parts for Spitfire aircraft.  This 1950’s photo shows the garage site.  It is now Tester’s Close.
