Southwater Station 1922

Southwater Station was opened on 18 September 1861 by the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway Company.  Originally, only a single track was laid but in 1865 a second track was added. The main station building, shown on the left in this 1922 photo, was substantial and the signal box stood by the down – side line.  The photo shows the old Worthing Road bridge with a central supporting strut which was later removed.  The Village Surgery is on the site of the former main station building.
