Cripplegate Mill Fire (1914)

On 25 May 1914, whilst in the ownership of Mr. JG Turner, and despite the efforts of the Horsham Fire brigade, the Mill was destroyed by fire.  The estimated cost of rebuilding the Mill was £1,700 (today c. £171,000).  Mr Turner decided not to rebuild the Mill.  The wind shaft and ironwork were sold for scrap to a Horsham company. The base of the mill remained until about 1931 when it was dismantled and the bricks sold to an Amberley based company.
