Cripplegate Mill (1807-1914)

Cripplegate Mill was built in 1807 and stood on the corner of Cripplegate Lane and Worthing Road.  It was a substantial Mill with a single storey brick base, its walls were 1 ft 9 inches thick and it had 3 floors above. There were a pair of 4ft 6 inch peak millstones, a pair of 4ft 4 inch burr millstones and the distinctive four spring sweeps.  The Mill had many owners and millers, the most notable being the members of the Grinsted family between 1809 to 1882.
